about

Hello!

Welcome to my website. My name is Barry Ablett and I love illustrating fiction and non-fiction books for children and grown ups.

I studied at Loughborough University and graduated in 1997 with a first class degree in Illustration. After leaving Loughborough I moved to London and began illustrating articles for magazines including Condé Nast Traveller, Good Housekeeping, Country Living, Homes & Gardens and Trailfinders. My passion for children's book illustration and storytelling soon took me to the wonderful world of book publishing where my work has appeared in over fifty titles in the UK and around the world. My published books include a series of illustrated adaptations of Charles Dickens novels, poetry books and educational books on the subjects of London, ancient China, William Shakespeare, British history, famous palaces, ancient Greece, castles and famous buildings.

I now live in the countryside and enjoy listening to live music, following the ups and downs of the England men and women's cricket teams and exploring new places with my wife and sons.
